Lolanda is a naïve teenager when she is persuaded by her older boyfriend to leave Romania for a new life in Spain. Akim promises her a big house, a well-paid job and a white wedding on the soft, white sand of a Costa Blanca beach.

In reality, the ‘big house’ is a brothel and Akim is a violent thug and sex-trafficker. On the day they arrive, he confiscates her passport and sells her virginity to a high-paying punter. It is her sixteenth birthday.

Punishments for disobedience are brutal. She must spend her days sitting at the side of a roundabout, waiting for ‘customers’ to pay for sex with her, always under the watchful eye of Akim and the other pimps. When they discover that she has tried to run away, she is confined to ‘working’ in the brothel, shut off from the light of day.

After years in captivity, Lolanda at last escapes by jumping from an upstairs window. She believes she has killed Akim in self-defence. Will the traffickers find her and kill her? Will they kill her family, as they’ve threatened so many times?
